How do I become a Freemason? Just ask
If you have an interest in joining Freemasonry, you have already taken your first step by viewing the information on our website. The next step is to contact our secretary and ask about joining.
We only ask that you commit in time and effort what you are able. Tasks and roles are never forced upon you and you will never be asked to place Freemasonry ahead of family, work or important interests.
Freemasonry can be such a diverse interest and has the potential for a positive life changing experience that gives back continually.
If you don’t already know a Freemason then finding a Lodge to join is normally about location. For practical reasons we would recommend joining a Lodge near to where you live or work.
Michelham Priory Lodge, your local Lodge
Naturally we would like you to join the Michelham Priory Lodge and if you are in the Herstmonceux area, which includes; Hailsham, Heathfield, Horam, Pevensey, Polegate or the surrounding villages, then Michelham Priory Lodge would love to help you start that journey. Other Sussex Lodges
There’s a list of Sussex Lodges on the Province of Sussex website. You can contact them via their membership enquiries link or contact the Lodge secretary of the lodge you choose and they should guide you further.
Am I eligible?
Any man over the age of 21 may join regardless of ethnic group, political views, economic standing or religion although he is expected to have a faith.
As with a lot of organisations, there is a personal financial responsibility to being a member. We ask that you are able to afford the necessary lodge subscriptions and contribute to charity without having an adverse impact on your family.
It helps if you are willing to devote some of your time to attend Lodge meetings, rehearsals, socials and events.
If you are seeking commercial, social or pecuniary advantage from your membership, then Freemasonry probably isn't for you.
